A buttock lift is a form of cosmetic surgery designed to enhance the appearance of the buttocks. It may be performed during a tummy tuck. Or it may be performed in conjunction with a lower body lift to sculpt the buttocks, groin, thighs, and abdomen.
Excess skin and fat are removed from the buttocks during a buttock lift. The remaining skin is repositioned for a more toned appearance.
A buttock lift alone will not increase the size of the buttocks. Occasionally, however, a buttock lift is combined with augmentation. A buttocks augmentation modifies the shape or size of the buttocks by using implants or fat harvested from other areas of the body.
The skin changes and becomes looser with age. In addition, sun damage, weight fluctuations, and genetic factors can make it more difficult for skin to return to its original position after being stretched. These factors can cause sagging of the buttocks and other body parts.
A buttock lift is typically performed in conjunction with other procedures for body contouring. You may want to consider a buttock lift if:
Have lost a significant amount of weight and maintained a stable weight for at least six to twelve months
Are obese and have not been able to lose a significant amount of weight through physical activity and dietary changes.
Have a healthy weight but desire a significant change in the appearance of your lower body
You are at a healthy weight, but you’ve had liposuction and you have sagging skin.
Keep in mind that a buttock lift will not alter the quality of your skin.
A buttock lift is not appropriate for everyone. Your physician may advise against a buttock lift if you have:
Have a severe chronic illness, such as cardiovascular disease or diabetes
Prepare to lose a substantial amount of weight
Have a body mass index of 32 or greater
Are a smoker
Have a mental health condition that is unstable
How you organize
You will initially consult a plastic surgeon about a buttock lift. During the initial consultation, your plastic surgeon will likely:
Examine your medical record. Be prepared to respond to questions regarding current and past medical conditions. Discuss any medications you are currently taking or have recently taken, as well as any surgeries you’ve undergone.
If your desire for a buttock lift is a result of weight loss, your surgeon will likely inquire about your weight gain and loss, as well as your diet.
Before a buttock lift, it may be necessary to:
Stop smoking. Smoking reduces blood flow to the skin, which can slow healing. Additionally, smoking can significantly increase the risk of complications. If you are a smoker, you must quit before surgery and during recovery.
Avoid a number of medications. You should probably avoid blood thinners, aspirin, anti-inflammatory medications, and herbal supplements. They can increase the risk of bleeding.
Maintain a consistent weight. Prior to having a buttock lift, you should ideally maintain a stable weight for six to twelve months. Significant weight loss following the procedure can affect the outcome.
Plan for assistance during recovery. Make arrangements for someone to drive you home and stay with you as you begin to recover from surgery.
What you can expect
Your incision will likely be covered with surgical dressing after a buttock lift. Typically, one or more drains are placed close to the incision line and beneath the wound to drain any excess blood or fluid.
In order to prevent the formation of blood clots, your healthcare team will assist you in walking as early as the day after a buttock lift.
You will likely experience moderate pain, which will initially be managed with intravenous analgesia. After surgery, drains may be left in place for several weeks. You will be instructed on how to clean and maintain your drains.
After your buttock lift, you may have to continue taking an antibiotic. After surgery, you may also need to take a medication to prevent blood clots.
After a few days, you will be required to wear a supportive garment for the following weeks. This will prevent fluid accumulation and provide support as you recover.
Scar treatment may involve silicone sheets, scar cream, and massage. Over time, the appearance of your scar will improve.
Who is good candidate
If you meet the following criteria, you may be a good candidate for buttock augmentation:
-You are in good physical health
-You have reasonable anticipations
-The feeling that your butt is too small bothers you.
-You are unhappy with the size and shape of your buttocks
-Your derriere is asymmetric
Before the operation
A buttock lift is performed in a hospital or ambulatory surgical center. You will be made comfortable during a buttock lift with the help of a general anesthetic, which induces a sleep-like state.
A catheter will be inserted into the bladder to collect urine. In order to prevent blood clots during and after surgery, your legs will be placed in sequential compression boots.
Throughout the procedure
Your plastic surgeon will make an incision from hip to hip along the lower back. In order to lift the buttocks, the excess skin below the incision is pulled upwards. Then, excess skin and fat are removed.
Antibiotics will be administered during the procedure to reduce the risk of infection.
The average duration of the procedure is two to three hours. However, if the surgery is combined with other procedures, such as a body lift, it can take up to six hours.
After the operation
Healing Process
– You should be able to return home. Since the process is not too intrusive, it can only take a few days for you to feel like yourself again. Depending on the locations treated and the volume of fat eliminated, recovery times will change. You’ll get a better understanding of what to anticipate from your surgeon.
– Pink-orange fluid may flow from the wound sites for the first several days, but this is completely normal and should go away on its own. Following VASER liposuction, discomfort is typically mild, so you probably won’t need to take any harsh medicines. Typically, there will be some swelling and some bruising or numbness in the area for close to 4 weeks. To give your body the best chance of properly recovering from the treatment, avoid heavy lifting for two weeks after the procedure.
– After your Operation, you will need to wear a special compression garment to help shape your body for close to 4 weeks. Your surgeon may give you additional details on this.
